This is the first in a series of 'Day in the Life' articles where we learn more about each PCM team member. Enjoy!

Most days, I drive straight into work, fix myself a strong cup of coffee and get ready for our morning briefing.

The whole team discusses any meetings we have for the day, if we’re expecting any deliveries, work set to complete...it’s a great way to find out what’s going on in the other departments, and catch up on the latest episode of Game of Thrones!

When I log-on, I check my emails to make sure there were no problems during the night and reply to anything outstanding.

We’re normally busy in the IT department, so I’ll chat with Chetan, Jake and Matt about our priorities for the day.

Of course, the phone is nearly always ringing with questions from our current clients and sometimes problems they might be having with their technology. They range from issues with printing, network connections, accessing the internet, updating software, forgotten passwords...you name it, we’ve had a call about it!

It’s a 50/50 mix of resolving issues that have already happened and advising our clients on how to improve their technology and processes to improve security or productivity.

As well as the reactive IT support we offer, we work on a lot of projects around business technology, engineering and development. One day I might be in the workshop working on a PC, the next I might be consulting a local business on the technology required for an office move.

I also look after the data backup we offer to clients, which includes server monitoring. We check the health of our clients’ servers to spot any potential issues and try to prevent them - normally through upgrades and technology refresh.

We visit our Comprehensive IT support customers quarterly, and I’ll also visit sites if hands-on support is required. The majority of our customers are in Leeds and Yorkshire, although we do travel as far North as Newcastle and have some Remote Data Backup customers on the south coast.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

Paraphrasing Forrest Gump: “PCM is like box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get”. Every day is different, that is why boredom can never be part of it. It’s always full of challenges, fun and sometimes despair. That’s what makes working at PCM unique.

It’s difficult to pinpoint my most favourite part of the job… maybe getting something to work that before looked impossible to do.
